Online loans in Colombia: what to expect and who to compare

You apply from your phone, fill in a short form, the credit check is automatic and the money lands the same day if you applied in business hours. It's for the one-off gap: a month's rent, a tuition bill, a broken-down motorbike. Not for recurring spending.

Straight talk on cost. Most of these products operate in the low-amount credit category, which carries its own — much higher — usury ceiling than ordinary consumer credit. On top of interest come administration or platform charges, so the right question isn't «what's the rate?» but «how much do I repay in total per 100,000 borrowed?». A serious lender answers that before you sign.

The player map in 2026: Lineru (150,000 to 1.2 million pesos, reads your cash flow more than your credit file), Solventa (doesn't take applicants with active negative reports — if you're clean, its process is among the fastest), Monet (small salary advances from the app), Juancho Te Presta (bigger tickets up to 3.9 million, repaid over months rather than days) and aggregators like Crezu or Crédito365 that shop your application to several partners at once.

The first disbursement is always the smallest. Lineru and its peers build your limit in tiers: pay on time and the next amount rises; run more than a few days late and the tier drops, taking two or three clean loans to recover.

And what needs saying plainly: this market exists as the formal alternative to gota a gota street lending. An expensive online loan inside the law has a rate ceiling, regulated collections and builds your Datacrédito history. Gota a gota has none of that and charges several times more. If you're paying daily instalments today, anything on this page is a step up.

When an online loan is NOT the answer: if you need more than 4 million pesos, if the comfortable term goes past 12 months, or if your profile qualifies at a bank (steady payroll, healthy Datacrédito). There, a libre inversión rate is a fraction of this, and the difference is millions.

  • Typical first disbursement: 150,000–600,000 pesos (grows with on-time payments)
  • Disbursement: hours, same day, by transfer
  • Legal category: low-amount credit, with its own usury ceiling
  • Always ask for total cost: interest + admin + platform fees
  • Terms: 30 days to 24 months depending on lender
  • Minimum requirement: national ID and an active bank account
  • With a negative report: Lineru evaluates, Solventa declines — filter before applying
  • No prepayment penalty

Frequently asked questions

Do I need proof of income?+

For small amounts, an ID and a bank account with activity usually suffice. From about one million pesos up, lenders ask for three months of statements; the self-employed pass with statements instead of payslips.

Will they approve me with a negative report on Datacrédito?+

Depends on the lender. Lineru looks at your recent cash flow; Solventa declines active reports outright. ExcelCredit serves reported borrowers but through payroll-deducted libranza, not pure online loans. Blind applications waste credit pulls — filter first.

Does it show on Datacrédito?+

The credit check is recorded, and an approved loan is reported — the good and the bad. Paying a small loan on time is one of the fastest ways to build a file from zero.

Why is the rate so much higher than a bank's?+

Because they lend small amounts, over days or weeks, unsecured, to profiles banks won't serve. That risk gets priced. The low-amount category exists precisely so that pricing has a legal ceiling — street lending has none.

Can I hold two online loans at once?+

You can, with different lenders. But every application pulls your file, and two active low-amount loans tell the next lender you're stretched. A bank reviewing your libre inversión application later will see it too.

What if I can't pay on the due date?+

Write to the lender before the deadline — most reschedule once without drama. Let it slip and charges grow, and the negative report reaches the bureaus, where it stays up to twice the length of the delay (Law 2157).

Is disbursement really same-day?+

If you apply in business hours and your bank takes instant transfers, yes — minutes to a few hours. Friday-night applications tend to land on Monday.

Is there a penalty for early repayment?+

No. Penalty-free prepayment is a consumer right in Colombia. It goes against principal; ask for the written paz y salvo when you close the loan.
