How we compare policies
The comparator above lines up Colombia's most-bought coverages — SOAT, full vehicle coverage, home and life — with indicative premiums and deductibles from the market's large carriers (Sura, Seguros Bolívar, Mapfre, Allianz, AXA Colpatria). Figures are reference values; the real price depends on age, city and insured value.
Pocket rule before choosing: total insurance spend shouldn't pass 10% of annual income. Disputes route first through each carrier's Financial Consumer Ombudsman and escalate to the Superintendencia Financiera. If a painful renewal brought you here, the editorial guides explain the clauses that bite most.
Four coverages, four different calls
- SOAT — mandatory for every vehicle, price regulated by brackets. Don't compare price (it's tariffed): compare the channel — informal middlemen's markup is money lost. Buy direct from the carrier or official digital channels.
- Full coverage — voluntary, and where a real market exists: get at least three quotes. Practical rule: above 40-50 million pesos of vehicle value, full coverage pays for itself with one partial claim. Watch the deductible and replacement value.
- Home — with a mortgage, the bank requires fire and earthquake cover; compare the bank's policy against an external one, usually cheaper for the same protection. Frequent claims are water and theft, not fire.
- Life — makes sense if someone depends on your income. In loans and libranzas, debtor life insurance is built into the instalment — compare it before accepting the bank's: the gap between policies can be millions over a long term.
Before paying the first premium
If financial loose ends remain, the personal loan and debt purchase sections help free cash flow before committing to an annual premium. For overall credit health, the score simulator gives an idea without touching your real Datacrédito.
